Wayang Windu Geothermal: 40 km south of Bandung, West Java, Indonesia
This award winning project involves the development of a 117MW Geothermal Power plant, an addition to the existing Wayang Windu Phase 1 of 110MW power station. The project is located 40km south of Bandung in West Java, Indonesia and renewable energy generated from geothermal steam displaces electricity generated primarily from coal and diesel in the JAMALI grid.
The project has won many awards for its excellence including Gold and Green PROPER awards by Indonesian Ministry of Environment for leadership in environmental, safety management (ISO4001 & OHSAS1800), community development and corporate social responsibility; and the Gold PADMA award by the Indonesian Ministry of Energy for CSR.
The project which has a very positive impact on the local economy has a large outreach and community programme includes the development of household biogas alternative energy projects, plantation of over half a million trees and improvement of 13,000 hectares of land, education and health through the provision of over 3,000 local scholarships and health clinics.
